The Spyker Cars name is derived from the original Spyker, founded in the late 19th century in the Netherlands. The original Spyker company produced cars and aircraft engines, thus the propeller badge seen on modern Spyker sports cars, but was unable to earn a profit after WWI and went bankrupt in 1929. The current company utilizes the Spyker name but was founded in 1999 by Victor Muller and Maarten de Bruijin. The aircraft history can be seen throughout the design of all current Spyker models though; the steering wheels are modeled after vintage airplane wheels and the exposed gearshift linkage and visible rivets bring to mind the aesthetic of an airplane. This creative freedom and unique approach to design means that Spyker produces some of the most extraordinary looking cars in the world!
